Anne and the Adoption Interview

Anne and the Adoption Interview

The date is August 1702. Anne was crowned Queen in April. She's starting to panic that she will never have an heir to the throne so she thinks about adopting instead.

The Facts

Anne is portrayed as childlike for a reason. She really did ask to play cards after her Father's death and got out of his funeral by pretending to be pregnant. There was a love/hate relationship with her sister Mary. She was upset when her Brother in Law ate peas in front of her. The relationship with Mrs Freeman is real.

She did have a collection of dolls and owned a property called The Cockpit in Whitehall and created the orangery at Kensington Palace (see picture two below). She did have a habit of being ill or fainting to get out of things. The list of drinks per day is true, as is her nickname Brandy Nan.

She really did call her period Lady Charlotte and had a total of seventeen pregnancies. Her description of Mrs Pack is verbatim. Her male midwife was Dr Chamberlen whose forebear did invent the birthing forceps - but he didn't really have a strange shaped head.
