The date is February 1598. Lettice has been estranged from Queen Elizabeth I for several decades.
A mediator has been called in to see if they can bring the two of them together for a successful reunion.

The Facts

It's true that Lettice was short for Laetitia and she and Elizabeth were estranged for 20 years. The stories about naming the child different to that of the godmother and marrying Dudley in secret are true. The story about the tussle in Elizabeth's apartments is true.

And the story about Lettice parading through London as if she was the Queen is also true. The names Elizabeth called her are true. She did then marry a third time, the master of her second husband's horses.

It's true that Elizabeth had asked Lettice to come to court on the 27th February. But she never showed up.
